Finance as a Catalyst for Change

The Green Finance Institute (GFI) is a philanthropically funded organisation working to mobilise private capital for green, nature-positive, and social transitions. Its team has backgrounds in finance and economics, and develops triple bottom line business models that engage market actors, shift capital in a sustainable direction, and create systemic, structural change at the sector level.

Collaboration with Public and Private Stakeholders – and a Global Perspective

In addition to its work with financial institutions, the Institute collaborates closely with governments around the world. The focus is on making the most effective use of public funding, often through blended finance mechanisms that attract co-investment from private capital.

Headquartered in London, GFI has offices across Europe and in several developing countries. The Danish office focuses on nature-based markets, the built environment, and Nordic cleantech.

Measurable Results, Long-Term Impact

The Green Finance Institute views the finance sector as a key enabler in the transition to a new economic future. The goal is not to make finance greener, but to finance more green. Sustainable solutions must be built on strong business models – business first, sustainability second.

Among the Institute’s most notable achievements are the Revenues for Nature programme in collaboration with UNEP and BIOFIN, the creation of the National Wealth Fund, and the development of over 60 green mortgage products in the UK.
