Light, Technology, and Space in Dialogue

Rune Brink Hansen works at the intersection of light, technology, and space. Through both digital and physical media, he has developed a distinctive visual language that often takes form in immersive visuals and large-scale light installations. In 2021, he introduced the artist alias Spøgelsesmaskinen as a framework for his 3D- and LED-based works, combining digital aesthetics with spatial design.

Rethinking Our Relationship with Technology

With Spøgelsesmaskinen, Rune Brink Hansen explores how we might rethink our relationship with technology, data, and the screen-based interfaces we interact with daily. Drawing on our shared technological history, he taps into nostalgia, memories, and personal connections to the computer—treating technology as something more than a tool, perhaps even as a kind of presence or consciousness in everyday life.

From Desktops to Dusk

In 2023, he presented the exhibition The Desktop, which explored the desk as a historical “docking station”—a site from which we’ve worked with other times and places beyond the here and now.

The following year, in 2024, he collaborated with curator Majken Overgaard and the DJ collective Den Sorte Skole on the installation Den Blå Time. Using light and sound, the work created a modern meditative space—a kind of portal to our ancestors’ experience of the twilight hour.

Visual Storytelling in Space

Beyond his solo practice, Rune Brink Hansen is deeply committed to using his visual language to create atmospheric, site-specific storytelling. Over the years, he has designed spatial visual experiences for a wide range of Danish and international museums, where light and form become active elements in communication and interpretation.
