The Avant-Garde Theatre Sort/Hvid
Sort/Hvid is Denmark’s avant-garde theatre stage for art and politics. The theatre creates performances that explore contemporary existential taboos and political fantasies across genres and art forms.

In close collaboration with artists, musicians, performers, and visual artists from independent scenes as well as theatres, festivals, and art institutions in Denmark and abroad, Sort/Hvid produces works that unearth the darker sides of contemporary humanity. The focus is on examining existential trash and the raw beauty that shapes human existence.

Experimental and Bold Endeavors
Since 2021, Sort/Hvid has been designated as a stage for music drama by the Danish Arts Foundation, solidifying its position as a national beacon within the field. The theatre continuously expands the boundaries of what music drama can be and challenges the conventional framework of theatre.

Sort/Hvid collaborates with artists willing to push the limits of performance and insists on experimentation as a core working method. This involves exploring new formats, engaging in cross-aesthetic collaborations, and developing collective creative processes. Taking bold artistic risks is a key element of the theatre’s approach.
A Vision for Sensory and Innovative Projects

Sort/Hvid aims to create projects that are both sensorially captivating and innovative – in both performance and visual expression. The theatre challenges classical narratives and rigid formats by integrating music, body, space, and concept as central elements in its artistic development.
