On 16 September, you can meet author Charlotte Weitze, who published the novel Ulvemælk in January 2025. The novel has been nominated for the 2026 Nordic Council Literature Prize. At the Long Table Dinner, Charlotte Weitze will give a reading and take part in a conversation with Majken Overgaard, who, together with Nicklas Larsen from the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies and the Bikuben Foundation, is behind Snart – Laboratory for Possible Futures.

Ulvemælk weaves together two time periods: the real life of folklorist Evald Tang Kristensen in the 1870s and 1900s, and a future story set in 2040 about Inga, who was once a writer, until an artificial intelligence called OS took over storytelling.

The conversation at the dinner will take its starting point in the novel and our collective memories. Because our memories are never static. They are interpreted, forgotten, retold and transformed from generation to generation. But what happens when technology companies increasingly have access to, organise and produce the stories that future generations encounter? If AI systems learn from vast amounts of human texts, images and experiences, the question is not only what the technology can remember, but also what it chooses to pass on, what disappears, and who gets to decide what becomes part of our collective memory.

Ulvemælk shows why literature has a unique role to play in the debate about AI and the future. While technical and political discussions about artificial intelligence often focus on efficiency, regulation and capacity, literature can do something else: it can imagine what it might actually feel like to live with the technology.
